Daily Devotionals: Day 128

DAY 128 BIBLE READING
JOHN 1:29-59

Reflection:

John called Jesus “the lamb of God”. God the Father, as the final High Priest of all creation, offering His only begotten Son, to die on the cross to take away the sin of the world. Jesus shouted in triumph, “It is finished!” (John 19:30). Christ redeemed us not with perishable things like silver or gold but with His precious blood. Christ’ sacrifice takes effect everyday, it is continuous (Exodus 29:38). He is our great intercessor. Because of what He has done we should look to Him by faith also continually and love Him and give Him the honour of it, and glorify Him for it.

The proclamation that Jesus as the lamb of God happened after John baptised Jesus with water the previous day. During baptism, when you are immersed into water, you are identifying with the death and burial of Jesus Christ—testifying that your old, sinful way of life is dead and is fit to be buried. As you come out of the water, you identify with the resurrection of Christ into the newness of life, signifying that you are now a new person with the life of Christ in you (Rom 6:3, 4). By going through this act, you demonstrate your sincerity in wanting to live with a clear conscience before God (1 Pet. 3:21).

Prayer:
Almighty Father, thank you for offering your beloved Son, His precious blood for our redemption. Thank you for Your unconditional love. We give praise, honor, and glory for Your great works!
